Early Morning: You will be picked up from your Istanbul hotel at 05:00 AM and transferred to the airport for your flight at **08:00 AM to Izmir.
After airport transfer, you will depart for the ancient city to the church of Pergamum, in Bergama. In the Pergamum you will see the Acropolis, steepest theatre in the world, and the Altar of Zeus, mentioned as Throne of Satan in the book of revelation. After the acropolis we will visit the Asklepieion which is the center of health in Roman times. In Pergamum you will also discover the second largest library of Ancient times, after Library of Alexandria in Egypt. The estimated number of books in Pergamum library is around 200.000, called Parchments. In Pergamum we will also visit the Red Basilica (St. John's Church). Then we will drive to Thyatira, now Akhisar city, another one of the Seven Churches of Asia. Thyatira was a city famous for purple dyes. We visit the remains of a basilica and some architectural ruins from the Roman period. Lydia, the seller of purple in Philippi, was from Thyatira. After the tour we will drive back to Izmir, before checking into the hotel we will discover the panoramic side of Smyrna which is the third biggest city of Turkey. DetailIn the morning, we'll set off for Sardis, one of the significant Seven Churches of Asia and the ancient capital of the Lydian Kingdom, dating back to the 6th century BC. While in Sardis, you'll explore the Temple of Artemis and the Temple of Cybele, the latter of which was converted into a Byzantine church. You'll also see Lydian houses, a gymnasium, and a synagogue, as well as the final stretch of the Royal Persian Road that connected Susa to Sardis, built by Cyrus. Lunch will be enjoyed en route.
Next, we'll travel to Philadelphia (modern-day Alasehir), another of the Seven Churches, notable for being the only one not censured. Here, you can view the ruins of a Byzantine basilica, distinguished by its impressive brick construction and 11th-century frescoes. Our journey continues to Hierapolis, now known as Pamukkale, famous for its stunning white travertine terraces formed by cascading hot mineral waters. These therapeutic springs have been recognized since 190 BC by the founders of Hierapolis and Laodicea. In Hierapolis, we'll visit the Martyrium of the Apostle Philip, where he was martyred during the persecutions ordered by Domitian.
Finally, we’ll head to Laodicea (Denizli), yet another of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor. Here, you'll see the ancient theater, the remains of a basilica, and ancient stone water pipes, along with the Gate of Domitian, the Arcadian Way, a 2nd-century AD theater, the Nymphaion, the Temple of Apollo, the Plutonium, and the Necropolis.
